Closing Of The Bones Ceremony

Closing of the Bones Ceremony

A sacred postpartum rite of passage

Held in reverence for your birth, your body, and your becoming.

Closing of the Bones is one of the most sacred, restorative ceremonies I offer. Rooted in postpartum traditions from Ecuador, Mexico, and across the world, this ritual is meant to energetically and physically “close” the body after birth. Birth opens us—wide, raw, and whole—and this ceremony gently calls the body back to center. It is both healing and honoring.

Traditionally, Closing of the Bones is performed by elder women or midwives with the use of cloths (mantas, rebozos, or scarves) to wrap the postpartum person—usually around the head, shoulders, womb, hips, knees, and feet. In many cultures, this ritual was performed around day 40 postpartum, symbolizing the completion of the initial healing window. It is used to help seal the energy of birth, restore the nervous system, and bring the mother back into her body—grounded, held, and whole.
